A skimboarding is one of the most thrilling and breath-taking boardsport which is played on the outgoing course of waves. In the primitive age, skimboarding was started in 1920 in Laguna Beach and there are a number of photographs of Laguna Beach skimboarding, played on seashore sand with the help of large-sized plywood boards. A Skimboarding has been advancing from Laguna to other worldwide beaches as people are now using home-made plywood boards on seashore sides in their locality. These skimboards were formed in the circular shape but not so well-established for controlled skimboarding. in the very beginning of 1970s, skim boards had been formed in the very similar shape of the surfboards and started to be constructed with the help of fiberglass material rather than plywood. Tex Haines had established his own skimboarding company, named as Victoria but there are a number of entrepreneurs have been involving to start this business of manufacturing skimboards due to the growing popularity of this water sport.
Although skimboarding is mainly an entertaining activity, like windsurfing, it has also developed as greatly competitive water sport and is now being taken more dangerously. In contrast with windsurfing, skimboarding sets up on the beach. The skimboarder locates within running distance from the spot of entry into the water with the skimboard in hand, waiting for a wave. As the most wanted wave comes near the skimboarder who rushes towards the water. It is dependable on the type of board which can be dropped into the upper surface of water from a recoiling wave or into the depth of water in front of the wave. A skimboarder drops the skimboard and starts to run on board without catching it and this condition of board is taken as “One-Step”, though there are some other specifications of “Two-Step” and the “No-Step” in the different styles of skimboarding. ultimately the skimboarder try to slide away the wave through pumping or sideslipping for the maintenance of balance and speed and this technique of skimboarding is known as “Run, Drop, Slide”, very advanced way of skimboarding. when a wave is approached it can be driven towards the downward passages or the skimboarder may try to launch off the direction of wave with aerial trick or forceful action.
But there are a lot of other techniques of skimboarding, used by rider and it is unusual to see the skimboarder to run on skimboard front foot first then the skimboarders may recede the waves on back foot first. There are some specifications of “Run, Drop, Slide” like “Monkey Crawl” where the skimboarder has firm grip over the both sides of skimboard and bending downward the currents of the deep water currents by maintaining the speed of riders who moves in different styles. This technique is used to hit the most forceful wave in the advance manner. There is another variation on the standard drop is the “suitcase drop” where the rider moves with the board, holding in one hand like the suitcase and then flip their hands so it lands flatly before running. The boardskimmers have to face difficult challenges while running in the direction of rough waved water and there is a need of practice to maintain the speed along with the bodily balance by providing safeguards against diging into the sand or sliding out of skimboarder’ feet. The rider should maintain his proper balance by holding his whole weight on the center of the skimboard. Most commonly the skimboarder is instructed to keep his feet on the back of board and on the front side of board too between the middle and tip of board.
